Sheila Doreen (Rasmussen) O’Brien, passed away on June 17, 2020 at the Melfort Union Hospital.

Sheila was born on a farm near Melfort and spent the first years of her life at Doncrest on the farm of her parents Edith and William Rasmussen. At age 18, she began teaching at Excelsior, south of Star City.

She then moved to Pleasantdale, where she met Orville and they were married on July 25, 1953. They moved to the farm they purchased east of Pleasantdale and continued to live there for 46 years. They then moved to Melfort where they have resided since. Sheila was currently residing in Legion Place.

Sheila enjoyed her garden and flowers, but her special treasurers were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters: Kathy Cross and Kerry O’Brien; grandchildren: Danielle, Jamie and Shane Cross, Leanne (Lee) Ganzert and Carter Quibell; great grandchildren: Brenden and Sydney Kawa, Nicolas, Benjamin, Olivia, Gabrielle and Xaviera Cross, Blake and Addison Ganzert; sisters-in-law: Grace Rasmussen and Vi (O’Brien) Hill and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her Dad in January 1995; Mother in November 1996; brother Delbert Rasmussen in October 2000; sister Betty Hamilton in August 2004 and husband Orville in June 2013.

Dear Kathy and Kerry,
I was saddened by your Mom's passing but celebrate the long and rewarding life of a kind and generous woman. I was so fortunate to have Mrs. O'Brien welcome me to Gr 4 in October of 1966. It's not easy to change schools and especially not after the school year has started. That October morning started what turned out to be a wonderful friendship of families. I have many fond memories of stopping for coffee during a Sunday afternoon drive and then staying on for supper. Those were the good old days!!
The kindness your Mom and Dad showed to Mom and Brad at the time of Dad's passing, will always be appreciated. The friendship our mothers shared was special indeed.
Your memories will be many and rich. Cherish them as you celebrate a life well-lived.
Hugs to you both,
Cheryl Wilken

My very deepest thoughts of sympathy are extended to Kathy and Leanne and to all the family.
I have very good memories of Sheila , when she boarded at Mom and Dad’s. She was my grade 3 teacher at Old Pleasantdale School. Orville was our Santa Claus that year. Sheila was the one that helped me learn to ride my sisters bike.
My sincere blessings to the family. May she Rest In Peace in God’s Hands.
