Obituary for Sheila Doreen O'Brien (Rasmussen)

Sheila Doreen (Rasmussen) O’Brien, passed away on June 17, 2020 at the Melfort Union Hospital.

Sheila was born on a farm near Melfort and spent the first years of her life at Doncrest on the farm of her parents Edith and William Rasmussen. The first nine grades of schooling were at Nixonville, a country log school which her Dad helped to build. She graduated from Carragana High School and attended Teachers’ College in Saskatoon. At age 18, she began teaching at Excelsior, south of Star City.

She then moved to Pleasantdale, where she met Orville and they were married on July 25, 1953. They moved to the farm they purchased east of Pleasantdale and continued to live there for 46 years. They then moved to Melfort where they have resided since. Sheila was currently residing in Legion Place.

Sheila enjoyed her garden and flowers, but her special treasurers were her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters: Kathy Cross and Kerry O’Brien; grandchildren: Danielle, Jamie and Shane Cross, Leanne (Lee) Ganzert and Carter Quibell; great grandchildren: Brenden and Sydney Kawa, Nicolas, Benjamin, Olivia, Gabrielle and Xaviera Cross, Blake and Addison Ganzert; sisters-in-law: Grace Rasmussen and Vi (O’Brien) Hill and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her Dad in January 1995; Mother in November 1996; brother Delbert Rasmussen in October 2000; sister Betty Hamilton in August 2004 and husband Orville in June 2013.

Memorial donations may be made in Sheila's name directly to the Pleasantdale Cemetery Fund.

At her request there will be no funeral service. A Private family burial will be held at a later date.
