Mary Jane (Falkoski) Walcer passed away surrounded by family at Parkland Place in Melfort, SK on April 13, 2021. She was born at home on her parents’ farm near Brooksby, SK on May 26, 1922 to Peter and Josephine (Jennie Tomaschewski) Falkoski. She attended school at Maryville and at a tender age worked hard caring for her siblings while her mother was in hospital. During this time she cooked and baked bread for a large threshing crew and many hired men who worked for her father. She was of great assistance to her aged grandparents. On July 8th, 1941, she married Casmir Walcer and together they farmed in the Mount Forest area near Melfort and raised a family of three. They semi-retired from specialized select seed farming in 1977 and moved into Melfort in 1990. Known for being a skilled gardener with ten green thumbs, the market produce Mary grew supplied the local hospital, nursing home, several restaurants and many families in Melfort. She was an excellent cook. We all loved her homemade cabbage rolls, perogies, borscht, sauerkraut, pickles, jams, cinnamon buns, breads, apple pies and more. Mary knew how to turn harvests of wild berries and mushrooms into mouth watering delicacies. She drilled into us that if someone gave a container of food then that container must always be returned full! Over the years Mary actively volunteered with her church, the North Beatty 4-H club and canvassed large rural areas for Cancer Society donations. She worked very hard to help compile, and prepare for publishing, treasured local history books as she understood the importance of keeping community history and pioneer stories alive and remembered. At a young age her grandchildren quickly learned that ample kisses produced copious rewards! With the help of her sewing machine, and half the inventory of a fabric shop, Mary was a gifted seamstress. Being a woman of deep faith, she knew how to care for a neighbour, the sick, the lonely or those struggling and facing hardships. She taught us to be thrifty, encouraged our endeavours, could make a short story long (!), was a savvy Scrabble player and sharp as a tack right until the end. Mary had an amazing memory of local genealogy, along with a multitude of anecdotes, and was the ‘go-to’ person if you ever wanted to know something about anything. Mary is survived by her daughters Marina Lawson and Leona Moote (Ivan d.2020); grandchildren Larry Walcer (Nicole) and daughter Madison; Anita Walcer (Gordon)and sons Steven, Jason and Trevor; Murray Walcer; Dennis Lawson and son Landon; Nicola Lawson and daughters Mishka and Aliyah; Garth Moote (Brigitte) and daughters Amber and Trista; Paul Moote (Selena) and daughters Ashley Ruberto (Joseph), Paulena Moote, and a son Maxwell Moote; great great granddaughter Ellie Ruberto; and Mary’s brother Joe Falkoski. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Casmir(2013), son Richard(2020), great grandson Luke Walcer(2001) and her siblings Frank, Victoria, Sylvia, Rose, and Stanley. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made in Mary’s name to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, 110-1525 Carling Ave, Ottawa, ON, K1Z 8R9 or a charity of your choice. A private family funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 11:00AM at Our Lady of Consolation Roman Catholic Church in Melfort, SK with Fr. Nick Ferreras officiating. The funeral will be livestreamed at Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband at Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon, SK.

Dear Marina and Leona. My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. Your Mom was a remarkable lady. I loved my chats with her, usually at the Coop. She was so proud of her girls but I think you already knew that. Much love and Hugs Karen
