William Arnold Robertson Meekins
April 5th, 1942 to April 25th, 2020

Bill passed away peacefully at 10:20 am at the Melfort Hospital in Melfort, SK on April 25, 2020 at the age of 78. Bill was born at 5:00 am at the Melfort Hospital on April 5, 1942 to Arnold and Joan(nee Robertson) Mason, a younger brother to Shirley. His mother died in childbirth and he was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Mona(nee Eby) and Owen Meekins, joining twins Gary and Grant. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his children Brenda, Bill(Shannon), Wendy(Rick) and Shawn, grandchildren Taryn(Cam), Sydney, Brett, Jeremy and Ryan, his siblings Gary(Ndenny), Geraldine(Brian) and Jim(Lillian) and many other beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and family all over Canada and the U.S. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Grant and sister Shirley(Ken). As a child he lived in Sherridon, MB with his family, many of whom worked at the Sherritt-Gordon Mine there. The Meekins family moved to Lac Vert, SK in 1946 where Bill was raised on the family farm until he completed his schooling. He spent a year at teachers college and went on to teach at Clapton School, north of Melfort, SK for the 1960-1961 school year. He joined the RCMP in July of 1961 in Regina, SK where he completed his training before being posted to Ottawa, ON the following year. While there he met his first wife and started a family. He was very proud to represent Canada in the 1964 and 1965 tours of the Musical Ride. The family moved to Winnipeg, MB in 1975 and he began working for CSIS in 1984, retiring in 1989.
Bill and Kathy returned to his hometown of Naicam, SK in 1992. Over the years he was an active member of the Naicam Lions Club, supported the senior hockey team, and joined the staff at the Naicam Army Cadet Corps. He was an avid sports fan, was passionate about curling and loved the Leafs, the Jays and the Roughriders.
Bill’s greatest accomplishment was being a father and grandfather. He cherished all the time he had with his family, and always looked forward to the Meekins family camping trip every summer at Duck Mountain, SK. He will be remembered fondly by all. A sincere thank you to the staff of the Grace Hospital, Health Sciences Centre and Saint Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB, the Melfort Hospital in Melfort, SK, the Naicam Ambulance in Naicam,SK and the Royal University Hospital Cardiac Care Unit in Saskatoon, SK. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Naicam Ambulance, RUH Cardiac Care Unit, the North Central Health Care Foundation (Stars Helicopter Pad), or to a Charity of One's Choice.

Bill was such a great guy.. I have so many great memories. Harvesting together and our road trip to Spokane stand out. We saw Lynn play a couple of games there and then took in a Washington Idaho football game. We stood in the pouring rain the entire second half...toughing it out was the only option. I will miss him. My sincere condolences to the entire Meekins family.
