Obituary for Wallace Arthur Phillips

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Wallace (Wally) Phillips announce his passing on Friday the 7th of May, 2021 at his home on the farm.
Wally was born near Pathlow, Sask on June 20, 1932 to parents William Henry and Sarah Ann Phillips. The family moved in 1933 to a farm north of Melfort in the Bagley-Lenvale District. He attended the Dover School for nine years and completed High School in Melfort.
Wally took flying lessons in Melfort and Regina, obtaining his private pilot's licence in 1952. He later went on to obtain his Commercial Pilot's Licence in Saskatoon. However, due to medical reasons he was unable to continue flying commercially. Wally worked at the Royalite Refinery in Saskatoon for ten years.
On November 9, 1954 he married Yvonne Pladsen of Melfort and they were blessed with three children, Terry, Belinda and Gregg. As he wasn't able to fly and farming was his other love, in March of 1964 they purchased a farm in the Thatch Creek District and have continued living there up until the time of his passing.
Wally was a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He spent many hours tinkering in his shop. Dad was a perfectionist and always said "There's no point in doing the job if you're not gonna do it right." A few years ago he was happy to be promoted to supervisor of the Farming operation and Fiberglass shop!! He still enjoyed getting in the combine seat right up until the end.
Although his health declined recently, he kept his spirits high, hoping to regain his well-being. To the world Wally was one, but to his family he meant the world. He is loved beyond measure and will be missed beyond tears.
Left to mourn are his loving wife Yvonne of 66 years, son Terry (Linda deceased), his daughter Tammara, and son Tyson (Kristin), their children Kale and Ainsley; Daughter Belinda (Ross), her daughter Amanda (Scott), their daughter Shai Lee, her daughter Andrea (Ryan), their children Leahrayne and Kelsey; son Gregg, his children Ryan (Allison), their daughter Olivia, and son Riley (Kaela), their children Wyatt, Cade and Jaxon, his daughter Chantal; Brother Tom (Kathy), and sister-in-law Darlene Andal, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Wally was predeceased by his parents William and Sarah, siblings Jim, Mary (Ray) Swenson, Phyllis (Bill) Highet, Ramona (Steve) Prestie, Ronald (Jean), daughter-in-law Linda Phillips and sister-in-law Dorothy Phillips.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Erin Beresh and the nursing staff of the Melfort Hospital, and the Home Care nurses for their care of Wally. A special thank you to Heather Ferguson for her empathy and compassion.

A Private Family Funeral Service will be held at a later date.

Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the North Central Health Care Foundation Inc., PO Box 1480, Melfort, SK S0E 1A0.
