Obituary for Stella Annette Powalinsky (Stocki)

Stephania Annette Powalinsky, endearingly known as “Stella”, was born July 11, 1933 to Thomasz and Marja (Kornacki) Stocki on their homestead near the district of Yellow Creek, Saskatchewan. Having attended Hazel Lake School during her youth, Stella moved to Saskatoon where she worked as a seamstress. On August 29, 1953, Stella married the love of her life, William, “Bill” Powalinsky, from the Crystal Springs district. They settled north of Kinistino, along the riverbank located by the forks of the Saskatchewan River. In 1962, Stella and her husband moved from their cherished homestead to the town of Kinistino.

Stella taught the “Special Ed” class in the Cottage School for several years. In 1964, Stella and Bill officially opened the doors of the Haven of Hope Home, a home that would provide “family” living for intellectually disabled children and adults alike, regardless of their disability or ethnicity. To this very day, Stella remains “our mom” to the Haven family.

Her generosities did not end there, Stella helped countless people, whether they were hungry, homeless, or heart broken.

Stella will be lovingly remembered by her son William (Charlotte) Powalinsky of Prince Albert and grandchildren Alexandria Powalinsky (Lisa Halsall) and great-grandchildren Arius, Aiden, and Talon, Nicholas Powalinsky (Jesse Kendall), and Nathaniel Powalinsky (Georgia Mathers-Huniak); her daughter Wilma Powalinsky of Melfort; her daughter Elizabeth (Michael) Rybinski of Kinistino and grandchildren Justin (Kristen) Rybinski and great-grandchildren Seth, Tori, and Kai, Celeste Pollock (Ryan Paquette) and great-grandchildren Trinity, Kristjan, and Jonah, David (Amy) Rybinski and great-grandchildren Irena and Faustina, Raisa (Bud) Vallis and great-grandchildren Sophie and Eleanor, Erika (Shawn) Vereschagin, Jacob Rybinski, Cassandra Rybinski (Nathan Luznar-Purdy), (Wm.)
