He studied Law and graduated from the University of Regina in 1959. This degree was revised in 2011, with the University of Saskatchewan conferring upon him Juris Doctor. He practiced law in Melfort and the surrounding area since that time, and in 2011 the law Society of Saskatchewan awarded him Senior Life Membership for fifty years of practice.

Ron was an avid antique car enthusiast from an early age until his death on February 11, 2023. He was an active member of the North East Vintage Automobile Association, which he was instrumental in establishing in 1984.
