Obituary

Phylis Audrey Henning was born June 12, 1926 in Melfort, Saskatchewan to Sydney “Bert” Henning and Mary Cottrill. She lived on the farm in the Resource district with her family and attended Jones school.

Phylis met Allan MacGillivray when he moved to Silver Park and they got married on January 9th, 1946. They remained on the farm in Silver Park until Allan’s illness in May 1998 when she moved into Diefenbaker Place in Melfort. Phylis resided independently in her suite at Diefenbaker until she passed away in Melfort Union Hospital on April 7th, 2021 at the age of 94.

Phylis worked at the Pearts Bakery, and The Robinson’s Department Store until it closed and then retired.

Together, Phylis and Allan raised four children: Dennis, Gerald, Judy and Connie. Her family was her life. She enjoyed spending time watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports and do their various activities. In her younger years, Phylis also loved to play ball and enjoyed curling in bonspiels. One of her favorite places was her garden, surrounded by her flowers. She also enjoyed spending time at the lake and riding on Judy and Gary’s boat. The chuckwagon races were a big part of her life and she looked forward to watching the races in June every year.

Phylis is predeceased by her parents Mary and Sydney, her mother and father-in-law Jessie and Bill, her husband Alan, her brothers Robert and Stub, her sister Marlene, her brothers-in-law Duane Freed and Bud Pavey, and grandson Quinton MacGillivray.

Phylis is survived by her 4 children: Son: Dennis MacGillivray and his family: Triki (Jeff) and Kolten (Katlyn), Courtnee, Conner Zenner; Layne (Loreena) and Taygan, Trey MacGillivray; Hailee (Brian) and Tessa, Orrin Kusch. Son: Gerald (Penny) MacGillivray and their family: Shawn (Jennifer) and Zachary, Xavier MacGillivray; Lorena MacGillivray, Pearl (Nathan), Penelope, Spicer, Ruby and Dexter Dmytrow. Daughter: Judy (Gary) Gratton and their family: Kristine (Mark) and Lauren, Kalen Dean; Jason (Carolyn) and Shawnti Gratton. Daughter: Connie Van Camp and her family: Jessie (Jerred) and Aiden, Brynley Spencer; and Cassie Van Camp. She is also survived by her siblings Mary “Teenie” Pavey, Eileen (Ralph) Nicholson, Ida Freed, and brother-in-law Carson Richardson.

I was saddened to hear of Phylis passing. She was always a cousin that my mom enjoyed spending time with As a child I admired Phylis’s spirt and energy. She was always full of fun and loved her stories when we would stop at the Robinson store when we travelled to Melfort. Hugs to all, Elsie Matthews (Moir) Molly’s youngest daughter

I am very sad to hear your mom passed !
Dennis Gerald Judy and Connie!
I have many great memories of the house on the farm with the stone steps. I loved being one of the big kids and going up the stairs to hang with the cool teenagers and you girls were so cool in my young eyes! And your mom most always made sure we were included! So many happy memories made to always cherish!
Your mom and dad were dear friends to my mom and dad, and we will miss Phyllis, and always remember her with love and laughter! May your memories bring you some comfort!
