Obituary for Olga Dobrowolsky (Derkach)

Olga was born on December 30, 1937 to John & Rose Derkach on the family farm near Ituna, SK. She was the fourth of six children. She had a love for horses; riding, working with and tending to them. Olga acquired her Grade 12 at Ituna (1956) and moved to Saskatoon where she worked briefly. She was a good bowler in her youth; even winning a black & white TV.
Olga met her future husband, Walter Dobrowolsky, at her parents’ 25th wedding anniversary. Walter and Olga married at Ituna on July 28/57. They began their married life on the Dobrowolsky homestead near Gronlid, SK. The new bride and her TV were an attraction in the area; a great way to meet the neighbours.
They were blessed with 4 children; three daughters, Lorrie (1959), Julie (1962) & Gina (1972), and one son, Kelly (1967). Olga was a loving mother to all her children. She had a special bond with her special daughter, Gina.
Olga loved life on the farm. She was a true partner with her husband, Walter, in running the family farm and their happy household. They would joke that the only vacation they could take was as far away as they could travel between the morning and evening milkings.
Sadly, Olga was widowed in August, 1980. She continued to reside on the farm; selling off the livestock and renting out the land. She eventually moved to an apartment in Melfort but returned ‘home’ often to her beloved house on the farm. Her happy place was on the riding mower keeping the yard trimmed.
Olga also worked for many years as the Librarian at the Wapiti Regional Library at the Gronlid School. She was loving, kind and strong. Her wants and needs were simple. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and her TV soap opera.
The Lord welcomed Olga home on September 28, 2019 at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon. Olga is survived by her four children; Lorrie (Bob) Gorenko of Rocky Mtn House, AB, Julie (Les) Beres of Saskatoon, SK, Kelly (Shelley) Dobrowolsky of Saskatoon, SK and Gina Dobrowolsky of Melfort; five grandchildren, Brock, Adam & Nicole Beres and Owen & Makenna Dobrowolsky.
Also left to mourn are sisters; Steffie Slywka of Ituna, Tess (Joe) Achtemichuk of Portage la Prairie, MB, Helen (Lionel) Beer of Hubbard, SK and sister-in-law Sonia Derkach of Yorkton, SK as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Olga was predeceased by her husband, Walter Dobrowolsky, her parents, John and Rose Derkach, her infant brother, Stephen Derkach, brother Bill Derkach and brother-in-law, Nick Slywka.
