Louise Marie Bourgault, 68, died on August 23, 2022, in her own home at Crossmount just outside of Saskatoon, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, after a prolonged struggle with ALS.

Louise was born on September 30, 1953, in Prince Albert, the oldest daughter of Gertrude (nee Tellier) and Lionel Boyer. She and her six siblings grew up in St. Louis until the family moved to St. Brieux as Louise entered Grade 10. She graduated from high school in 1971 and moved to Saskatoon, where she entered the College of Education for a year.

In 1972, she married Gerard Bourgault and worked at St. Mary’s Credit Union in Saskatoon for several years, then returned to St. Brieux to raise her three children and work in administration and finance at Bourgault Industries until her retirement in 2020.

Louise enjoyed her work and colleagues and was also very involved in the community, volunteering for organizations like the Rec Board, St. Brieux Judo Club, and the St. Brieux Historical Society. She loved singing, whether it was with The Boyer Sisters, Marysburg Choir or St. Peter's Chorus and was an accomplished seamstress and pianist. Louise enjoyed canoeing with a group of local women every summer for several years and loved travelling with her friends and family, visiting places like Disney World, the Caribbean, and Scotland.

As a mother, she was very active in supporting her children in their activities, volunteering as chaperone for trips, driving them to judo tournaments and ringette and hockey games, and actively fundraising for their teams.

She was thrilled to become a grandmother and loved hearing about all of their activities and accomplishments, frequently driving to attend piano recitals, birthday parties, and school and sporting events. Louise loved their visits and Facetime calls and often shared her pride in her family with her extended family and friends.

After her separation in 2018, she moved to her lake house, which she loved, and, with the support of family, friends, and caregivers, remained there after her ALS diagnosis in September 2020, until her move to Crossmount a week before her death.

She will be remembered as a proud mom and grandma, loyal sister and friend, and capable and trusted colleague; for baking the best jam jam cookies; and for her stubbornness, bravery, and strength.

Louise was predeceased by her parents, Gertrude and Lionel Boyer, and is survived by her three children and their spouses, Joanne Bourgault and Warren Crozon, Michelle Bourgault-Fagnou and Andre Fagnou, and Daniel and Vanessa Bourgault; her grandchildren, Alexander Crozon, Mattea Crozon, Xavier Fagnou, Logan Bourgault, Maxime Fagnou, and Austin Bourgault; her siblings and their spouses, Paul and Pauline Boyer, Lucie and Edouard Coquet, Maurice and Pauline Boyer, Denise and Bruce Bortis, Cecile and Guy Thomas, and Jocelyne and Dale Bortis; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Louise’s Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, August 29, 2022, at 11am at the Kerry Vickar Centre (206 Bemister Ave E Melfort SK). Interment to follow at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in Louise’s honour to the St. Brieux Historical Society or the ALS Society of Saskatchewan.

Her Celebration of Life Service will be recorded and added here after the service.

Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the ALS Society of Saskatchewan, or to the St. Brieux Historical Society.
