Obituary for Leilah Lois Wood

Leilah Lois Wood was born on December 28, 1928, in Swatow, China to parents Cecil Herbert Wood and Emily Ritsu (half Japanese and half German descent) called Eurasian.

When war started in 1941, Leilah was thirteen and being of Eurasian decent, she was sent to a concentration camp for four years.

Then her and her mother came to Canada, united with the Wood family and continued to Toronto, where Leilah worked at Eatons, studied piano and taught music lessons.

Then in 1980, Leilah married the love of her life, Morris Wood. In 1988 they moved to Pleasantdale and together they farmed.

In 1992, they adopted a daughter Julia Jade Wood.

After Morris passed away in 2004, she continued to rent out the farmland.

Her love of yard sales and bargain shopping would find Leilah travelling to Melfort, Naicam and further, even driving to both places in one day.
Leilah’s hobbies were attending to her pets, playing classical music on her grand piano, knitting and crocheting to name a few.

With declining health, she entered the Melfort Hospital on June 30, 2022 and then to long-term care at Parkland Place. On February 5, 2023, Leilah passed away peacefully with her friends at her side.

Leilah was predeceased by her husband Morris (2004), father (1943) mother (1983); sisters: Edith May Wood Hamson (2003), Hilda Alice Wood Bulkeley (2008); brother Eric Thorsby Wood (2003).

Leilah will be remembered by her stepchildren: Harvey Morris Wood and family, Dennis Arthur Wood and family; daughter Julia Jade Wood and family, her special friends, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Pleasantdale Cemetery, Pleasantdale, SK.
