Obituary for Kathleen Green

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness the family of Kay (Kasha) Green late of Melfort, SK, announce her passing on October 17, 2020. She passed peacefully at the age of 93, at her place of residence “Bear Creek Villa (Independent Living) Surrey, BC, being blessed with a lifetime of great health. Kay was born in the R.M. of Glenella, Manitoba on January 30, 1927 to Michael and Victoria Rurak (Rudock). Soon after moving to Gronlid, SK she grew up in the middle amongst 5 siblings: Elsie, Nick, Helen, Andy and Jim. After completing her grade twelve Kay attended Psychiatric Nursing in Winnipeg, MB soon returning back to Gronlid, SK. Local barn dances were always well received, even more so for Kay! She had been introduced to a local farmer and band member who would soon become her husband. Keith and Kay joined hands marrying in Regina, SK (1949) returning back to Gronlid, SK building a life of their own, having 4 children - Bud, Larry, Shannon and Kevin. Soon after having their second child they moved from the family farm to build a life in Melfort, SK who soon realized she very much enjoyed being in touch with people! Kay was hired on with the Melfort Court House as “Clerk of the Courts” with exceptional shorthand skills, eventually given the title as Deputy Sheriff. Having dedicated close to 20 years of service with the department of Justice, Keith and Kay had aspirations of building their own business together, opening an Automotive/Heavy Duty Repair shop (Parkland Motors) in Melfort, SK in 1978. She joined Keith as the Accountant/bookkeeper to a business both were very passionate about. Kay approached this new role with the same passion she placed on her family and life. Keith and Kay loved socializing with friends and family alike, enjoying many wonderful memories throughout the years at the Kipabiskau family cabin. Both held strong Lutheran ties being very involved with the Melfort St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, along with many weekends helping out at every capacity on the family farms in the Gronlid, SK region! She always made time for her passions sewing, petty point, gardening, canning, reading, walking and cooking traditional “Ukrainian” meals at every occasion that presented itself! After losing her husband and friend Keith early in life (1987) had left her a tough decision, selling the family business! Kay had dedicated her time back to the Melfort Lutheran Church and community, to include being a strong advocate and supporter of the Melfort Mustang Hockey Association. She had always billeted 2 possibly 3 boys for many years while working at H&R Block during Tax season. With a heavy heart the time came for her to retire from her roles, leaving a lifelong community and seeking a warmer climate moving to Surrey BC in 1999. Kay spent 20 years with her daughter Shannon, granddaughter Chanel and family while creating many wonderful new friendships along the way…Kay passed away peacefully at her residence of 4 years Bear Creek Villa in Surrey, BC leaving behind many special people in her life! She is survived by her children: Son; Bud (Juliette) and children: Trevor (Shelley), Tara Rolle (Mike), Ryan (Jackie) Crystal Green (Adam) Son; Larry (Cathy )and Children: Veronica Green-Hashmi (Irfan) and Shaun, Daughter; Shannon Green and child: Chanel Gonsalves (Tim) Son; Kevin and stepson Cody Toth (Kyla) along with 10 wonderful great grand children and relatives.
