Obituary

Katherine (Kay) Shwetz passed away peacefully at Parkland Place in Melfort, SK on October 23, 2020 at the age of 98. Kay was born near Gronlid, SK on June 7, 1922 to Sam and Victoria Sturby, one of 10 children. Kay was part of a large farming family; she attended Taelman School and worked on the family farm with her siblings. She was an avid gardener, an excellent cook and homemaker, farmer (grain truck driver) and a school bus driver in the Taelman, Taras and Teddington districts. She enjoyed hunting through the forests for mushrooms and blueberries if someone kept an eye out for bears! She also sewed, knitted and decorated cakes for family and friends.
Kay was predeceased by her parents, brothers Peter and Joseph, sisters Verna Ewanus, Mary Moskal, Lecia Levitsky, husband Joe, daughter Marlene Miazga, son-in-law Mathew Miazga, granddaughter Gloria, sister and brothers-in-law Stephanie Sturby, Steve Danyluk, Harry Moskal, Caroline Sturby, Nadia Sturby and Peter Ewanus.
She will be fondly remembered by her son Walter (Kathy) Shwetz, grandchildren Joanne Shwetz; Anna-Marie (Wilson) Pocha and great grandchildren Christopher and Sidney; Heather (Jeff Turetsky) and great grandchildren Samuel and Nathan; Murray Miazga; Andrew Miagza; Glenda Miazga; and Alicia (Kent) Mooney and great grandchildren Mackenzie and Logan. She is also survived by siblings Anne Sturby, Madeline Danyluk, Jacob Sturby, Michael (Marg) Sturby, brother-in-law Eugene Levitsky and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Private Family Funeral Service will be held.

Wally and Kathy, we are sorry to hear of mom's passing. I think it is the Gronlid water that insures a long and wonderful life.. Your mom 98 and Sylvia's dad 99... Hope we drank enough??? I know she lived a long, good life but it is still sad to loose a parent. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and only hope that good memories and time will ease the sorrow.. Andy and Sylvia Renaud
