Dear Murray, Julie, John and families,

I just read about the passing of your mother Judy. I had the pleasure of Judy being my physio assistant when I was the physiotherapist at the Melfort Union Hospital. During spring and fall I let Judy float her holidays to best assist the spring planting and fall harvest. Growing up on the farm I knew how the weather could aid or detract from both seasons on a daily basis.

Your mother was always happy and so kind to all of our inpatients and outpatients. We made a good physiotherapy team.

Judy introduced me to the Norwegian pastries Krumkake, and Fattigman. Also, Lefse and Geitost cheese...a great combination. She used to team up with a Norwegian neighbor at Xmas time and they would make it a whole day of baking together. Being single, my kitchen utensils were on the limited side. I was examining a hand crank egg beater at the Co-op store. Judy came up behind me and whispered, “You’re not supposed to buy yourself anything a month before Xmas.” Judy had already bought me this item for Xmas. She relished every minute of her trip to visit relatives in Norway.

I enjoyed a couple of overnights at your farm, and would come downstairs in the morning to your big, bright kitchen to a sumptuous breakfast of blueberry(picked from the wild)waffles, syrup and a topping of thick cow’s cream. Judy put a little bit of salt in the coffee which seemed to enhance the flavor.

Judy told me that once all her children left home she heaved a sigh of relief that she did not have to make a big pot of porridge any more. Then she looked out the kitchen window and saw the dog waiting by his dish for his porridge.

My own mother passed away on November 26th, 2020 so I can empathize with all of you.

Your Mom was so proud of her whole family, and John I can’t help but think of you as little John as it was how your mother always referred to you.

All of you take care. My thoughts are with you.
