Obituary for Joyce Ann Wasilenko

Joyce Wasilenko (August 19, 1939 – November 12, 2020)

Joyce passed away gently and peacefully at the age of 81 on November 12, 2020. She died at Chateau Providence, St Brieux, SK, where staff appreciated her sense of humour and her smile, which they said could light up a room.

She grew up on the family farm where her grandparents had homesteaded near Blaine Lake. She made hay, harvested crops and tended the animals. As an adult, she was in the kind and loving care of Dawn and Todd Desaulniers in Melfort, SK for many years. They treated Joyce as a member of their family.

Joyce loved doing arts and crafts. A favorite pastime was sitting on the deck in the summer and watching the birds. Hardworking since childhood, she liked to be busy and enjoyed helping around the house. She developed a loving and enduring relationship with Dawn and Todd's children, Kevin and Jessica. Joyce adored Jessica’s two daughters and loved sharing snacks with them.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents, John and Katie Wasilenko of Blaine Lake, her sister Grace Pachnowski (Joe) of Winnipeg, her brother Roy Wasilenko (Mary) of Edmonton, and her nephew Tadd Wasilenko of Edmonton. Her memory remains in the hearts of her brother Bob Wasilenko (Iris) of Lethbridge, nieces: Linda Pachnowski (Gerry) and Cathy Anne Pachnowski of Edmonton, and nephews: Tyler Wasilenko (Tawyna) of Red Deer, Travis Wasilenko of Edmonton, Greg Wasilenko of Vancouver and Trevor Wasilenko (Starla) of Lethbridge.

Donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association – Saskatchewan Division or a charity of your choice.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at Terpania Cemetery, Blaine Lake, at a later date
