James was born in High River, Alberta on June 28,1932 to Lloyd and Anna Monkman. Jim was the first of two children born and raised in High River, Alberta.
Jim loved working with people and his career as an auditor for MacLeods took him throughout all of Western Canada and was a store manager in Winnipeg, Calgary, Weyburn and Melfort. Jim was also an accomplished Beekeeper and raised Honey Bees. Jim really enjoyed his career working with the public and the staff at Canada Post in Melfort.
Jim met Mary in Winnipeg, the love of his life in 1959 and married on July 29, 1961 and was blessed with two children; Kathy and Greg. Jim retired from Canada Post in 1997.
Jim was a wonderful father and enjoyed travelling across Canada and the USA. Jim and Mary enjoyed trips and cruises to Europe, Hawaii and Mexico. Jim loved music, especially the  50's, Big Band and Jazz Music, Jim was a sports fan and enjoyed Hockey, Boxing, Football, Baseball, Tennis, Golf, Gardening, Fishing, Cars, the Outdoors, and having coffee and conversation with anyone. Jim especially loved growing up in the foothills and mountains of Alberta, fly fishing on the Highwood River, Duck Hunting and Camping at Kananaskis.
Jim is survived by his children Greg Monkman and Kathy (Mike) Cubrilo; grandsons: Jeff, Ryan and Tyler; brothers-in-law: Pepe, Ed and Merv, sister-in-law: Lil, Katherine, Pat; nieces:  Anna-Maria, Pat, Andrea, Kristen, Leanne, Janice, Laurie, Marjorie, and Janet and nephews: Robert, Allan, Brian, Merv, John, Brian, Bruce, Craig, Grant, and John.

Dear Greg - I don't know if you remember me but I worked with you, and your Dad, at KFC many years ago. He was a joy to work with and very humorous. That led to many friendly hellos and chats in the years that followed. Your Mom was also a wonderful lady and superb nurse - bar none. Treasure the memories.

I was sad to hear of Jim’s passing. We worked together briefly at the post office many years ago. I’ve always enjoyed our visits since. Reunited again with his beloved Mary. My condolences to his family.

I was saddened to see the notice at the post office this morning. Jim was the kindest man. He had a great smile and would always greet you with that smile and his kind voice behind the post office counter. I send my heartfelt sympathy to his family, and hope you find some comfort knowing how many hearts he touched. Yes now reunited with his beloved Mary. Shirley Wehrkamp-Folden
