Obituary for Irma Doris Evenson (Staff)

Irma Doris Evenson (Staff) was born February 25, 1923, on the family farm north of Melfort. She passed away peacefully on January 18, 2023 at Parkland Place at 90 years of age.
Irma grew up on the family farm northeast of Melfort. She attended Pine Bluff School and completed Gr. 12. After high school she went on to work for an auntie in her home, as well as others who needed help with household chores.
It was in 1951 that Irma met and married the man who caught her eye, John Evenson. They had 4 children, Allan, Dennis, Sherry, and John Jr. Irma believed in and loved family, with many family gatherings, dinners, birthday parties, family reunions, whenever and wherever they were she loved to attend and loved being at each one. Pictures were always taken at very occasion this would explain the many, many, many photo albums! Irma and John made their home on the land that John broke with his brother Russell. There were lots of farm chores, household chores, a big garden, going out to pick berries, canning, 4 H meetings and attending events with the children. But there was always time for going up to the pines for wiener roasts with enjoying the time with family. Summers were spent at the cabin at Lower Fishing Lake.
It was also at an early age that Irma attended church with her parents and siblings. Then later, Young Peoples, bible studies, and later yet, Ladies Aide. She knew the Lord and grew to love Him with her whole heart. She would go on to lead Stone Croft Ministries Bible Studies, and Christian Women Club in Melfort. Her faith was evident and she lived it out from the beginning of her life to the end of her days.
Irma loved to sing hymns and other songs, she loved to knit, crochet, loved to listen and watch the many birds that came to her feeders, reading a good book and enjoying a good cup of coffee. Going through photos she had taken and reminiscing over days gone by.
In 1975 Irma and John decided to retire from the farm into Melfort. They built a home for themselves and set to enjoy a life less busy. They went on several trips together, and travelled south to Arizona to spend their winters somewhere warm.
Meeting and making new friends and acquaintances all along the way. With their health declining they decided to scale down and sell their home and move to Elk Point condo on Stovel West in Melfort.
On November 18 of 2006 Irma would have to say “so long for now” to her husband of 55 years. For the next few years Irma relied on her Lord and Savior each and every day, for His grace and strength. She gave of herself to many, with service in her church and community. She also enjoyed some time travelling to visit family and friends.
It was in October 2008 Irma married Jack Forsyth. They had a life together till his passing in 2015.
Irma suffered a stroke in July of 2016 and spent the last days of her life as a resident of Parkland Place in Melfort.

She passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on January 18, 2023.
