It is with great sadness, but with eternal hope, that we announce the passing of our Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Great-Great-Grandma, Sister, Sister-in-law, and dear friend to so many at the age of 92 years. Mom died peacefully with family surrounding her on Tuesday, February 16, 2021.
Helen Snape (Amos) was born on April 20, 1928 in Tilston, Manitoba to Ethel (Christopher) and George Amos. Helen was the oldest of six children. Her (Daddy) passed away when Helen was 16 and her youngest sibling was 4. Helen came from humble beginnings, but she had great riches with her strong faith, her family, and many treasured friends that she has kept in touch with for her whole life. Mom would be the first to tell us how blessed she was.
Mom spent her life in service to her Lord, her family and friends, and she lived her faith. This was exemplified in prayer, through phone calls or visits, preparing lunches, volunteering her time, or by donating to those less fortunate and to the many charities that were dear to her heart. We know that many of you have been touched by Mom through letters, phone calls and visits, or birthday, Christmas, and sympathy cards. She was faithful and sincere in her service to others.
Helen married A.L. (Laurie) Snape on July 5, 1946. Together they raised five children. Mom was predeceased by her husband Laurie on June 23, 1993 after 47 years of marriage and by her eldest daughter Carol on December 29, 2013. Other family members who went ahead were her parents, Ethel and George Amos; Parents in-law Frank Charles and Ellen Snape; brothers, Roy Amos, Harry Amos and sister Barbara Hall; brothers-in-law Pat Hall, Barry Carbert, and Frank Snape; nephew John Snape, and niece Sandra Snape.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children Jean Snape; Frank Snape; Bonnie (Brent) Schenher and their family Nick (Sandra) and Lucy, Taylor (Marley), Jordan (Sabrina) and Maddox, and Grace (Patrick); Penny (Ron) Knuff; and Carol’s family – Richard (Karyn); Kelly (Caroline) and family Kale, Braydon (Cassidy), Spencer, Elijah (Megan), and Hugo; and Derek and Andrew.
She is also survived by her sister Joan Carbert and family; brother Doug (Eileen) Amos and family; sisters-in-law Kathy Amos, Delores Amos, and Ethel Snape and their families. Mom is also survived by many dearly loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mom loved her Lord with her heart, mind, and soul, and her neighbour as herself. There has never been a moment in our lives that we have ever doubted how much Mom loved, cared, and accepted us, just the way we are. Her favourite bible verse is 1 Peter 5:7 – “Casting all your care upon him, for he cares for you.” All the cards we received from Mom always included this verse.
Mom – you have taught us well. Rest free from your worries, cares, and service. How we wish for just one more phone call…
We love you Mom, thank you for all you have given to so many out of great love.
Until we meet again.

The family of Helen Snape would like to express our heartfelt thank you for the friendship and care you have shown our Mom. Helen Snape passed away peacefully and went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 16th with family by her side. Prior to her passing she was in the Melfort Hospital for over two weeks. Thank you for the many phone calls and flowers that Mom received while in the hospital and at her daughter’s home. A very special thank you for the care she received in the hospital. To her family doctor, Dr. Wingate, thank you for taking care of Mom over many years. She was so grateful for your care.
To Drs. Beresh, Strydom, Steffen and Wilgenbusch, thank you for your care, compassion and the time you spent with us, helping us make decisions that were best for us. To the nurses and so many staff at the hospital. Especially Jacquie, Laura and Deanna. Thank you for your kindness and patience. There are so many people to thank, I wish we could mention all of you by name. You know who you are, and we will be forever grateful. To Larry and Gladys, all of Mom’s neighbours, Shirley, her church family, Linda and her coffee friends, thank you for your kindness to Mom and may God richly bless each one of you.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Mom’s life in late spring or early summer in the hopes that more friends and family will be able to attend. We will place a notice in the paper to announce Mom’s service when the date has been set.
Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to The Gideons International in Canada.
