Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" Ogren

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gerald (Jerry) Ogren of St. Albert, AB on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the age of 70 years.

Jerry is survived by his loving family; son Dean of Calgary, AB; daughter Juliana (Jay) of Morinville, AB; youngest son Kevin of Edmonton, AB; and their mother Elaine of St. Albert, AB. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister Sonja (Lyle); brother Nick (Cathy); sister Karen (Mike); and brother Milt; special friend Ayah; as well as numerous extended family, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was predeceased by his father Henry (2004); mother Anne (2020); and sister-in-law Colette (2020).

Jerry was born in Melfort, SK on June 1st, 1952 to Henry and Anne Ogren and was the second eldest of 5 siblings. Growing up in Gronlid, SK, Jerry participated in the family farm operation from an early age. He excelled playing baseball and hockey and was also a talented musician, playing both the organ and accordion in a band with his brother Nick in High School. He later graduated from SIAST in Saskatoon, SK with a Diploma in Industrial Chemical Technology, working his entire career in both Nipawin, SK and Edmonton, AB as a Quality Assurance Manager with what is now Bunge Canada. Jerry resided in St. Albert, AB from 1986 until his passing.

Throughout the years, Jerry was active with his kids’ sports and education, and always provided so much encouragement and advice to us all. Jerry’s favourite vacations were family trips back home to Saskatchewan, into the mountains and lakes of BC, and a more recent trip to New York City. Jerry was a keen Edmonton Oilers fan and always enjoyed discussing the wins and losses with his son Dean after each game. He deeply valued the time he would spend with Kevin meticulously maintaining the yard and visiting with Juliana and Jay at their new home in Morinville, AB. One can’t forget to mention the great pride Jerry took in his small vegetable garden at home, always happy to share his prize tomatoes with the family and neighbors. Jerry’s dry wit and generous and supportive nature will be so greatly missed.

A private family service was held.
