Obituary for Florence Mary Rotariu (Swerhun)
Our precious mother, grandmother and great grandmother Florence Mary Rotariu passed away very early in the morning on Saturday, August 21, 2021, from untreatable stage 4 lung cancer, at the age of 69. Her journey with cancer was rapid and fierce, with a diagnosis only three weeks prior to her passing. Her last request was that her children could be with her, holding her hand. God blessed us with exactly that, as we peacefully watched her take her last breath in the palliative care room of the Melfort Hospital.
Our Mom was a kind, energetic, determined and highly resilient woman. She had an endearing child-like quality with a unique ability to play imaginatively with kids of all ages. She spent hours watching those she loved play video games, hockey, and all kinds of school sports. Mom loved a good conversation, watching curling, movies and enjoyed any kind of quality time with family and friends (quality time was definitely her love language!) After coming to saving faith in Jesus Christ in May 2018, Mom very quickly developed a vibrant prayer life and devoted hours to studying the word of God with other Seniors and her daughter. The two shared the trip of a lifetime to Israel in 2020, where Mom was baptized in the Jordan River just like Jesus was.
Mom was born on January 2, 1952 on the farm in Kamsack, SK. She was raised among 14 children, 11 of which were her biological siblings and the other three were half-brothers and a sister. As the youngest daughter, it was well known she was highly favored by her Momma. Mom was the first to graduate in her family and worked as a secretary/office clerk until retirement.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Alex & Josephine Swerhun, her siblings Walter Swerhun, Eddie Bobyck, Joyce Swerhun, Sylvia Swerhun, Wilfred Swerhun, and Kenny Swerhun. As well as her long-time partner Ron Sveinbjornson from Churchbridge, SK.
Mom is survived by Corinna ( Jeff) Stevenson, Beau ( Bailey) &Lilah Stevenson, Cashe Stevenson ,Jada Stevenson & Colin ( Tara) Rotariu, Dylan Rotariu. As well as her siblings Helen Rose, Gloria (Wayne) Erhardt, Valjean (Tim) Keating, Iris Kazakoff, Leslie Swerhun, Bernie Swerhun and Renny Swerhun. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends all of whom have been touched by her in their lives. She shared 25 years of life with the Sveinbjornson family and was a special grandma to Katie, Brooke, Hunter, Luc, Thor and Sunna. We all will forever cherish our found memories and shared stories of her.
