Obituary

Ernest Albin Flodell was born June 6th 1923 on the family farm north of Beatty Sask. To Albin and Mable Flodell (Nordstrom). Ernest was the first born on both the Flodell and Nordstrom families. Ernest had five siblings. Infant sister Edith died as a newborn.
Ernest attended Lund and Creekhill schools. Walking, skiing and horses were his mode of transportation to school. Ernest attended the University of Saskatchewan for a course on motor mechanics, which he made use of for the rest of his life.
Ernest helped on the family farm from a very young age learning many skills he used throughout his life. Running a threshing crew was one of them.
Ernest enjoyed sports, baseball especially. He was the back catcher for the local ball team. Bob Horne a long-time friend of Ernest's is now the last surviving member of their team.
Ernest married Elsie Violet Larson July 4th 1947. They made their home on the farm Northeast of Beatty. This union was blessed with five children, Dian (1948), Gloria (1950), Marlene (1953), Ronald (1956) and Shelley (1959).
As well as farming Ernest and Elsie opened a small gas station and grocery store on the farm. Produce from the farm was sold through the store. Ernest was a very generous man, many people received groceries with the promise to pay on Tuesday (sometimes Tuesday never came).
Ernest suffered a heart attack in the mid sixties. Ed Musselman came to live at the farm and helped with the farming operation.
There was always coffee on at their home, which was enjoyed by many family and friends. Ernest farmed on the James Smith reserve for many years making many lifelong friends.
Ernest and Elsie shared a cabin with the Tony Shmyr family for many years. Eventually the two families outgrew the cabin and Ernest and Elsie bought a place at Little Bear Lake. After renovations were completed many very happy times were spent there with family and friends. Some of the grandkids most memorable memories have been at the cabin.
Ernest faced many losses in the past twenty years. Daughter Dian passed away in 2000, son Ronald in 2002 and the love of his life, Elsie on July 4th 2015 on the day of their 68th anniversary. Ernest never got over these losses.
Because of failing health Ernest has spent the last six years, in long term care at Parkland Place in Melfort. Ernest enjoyed teasing and conversing with the staff. He so appreciated their care and kindness.
Ernest is survived by daughters Gloria Quibell, Marlene (Bruce) Stevenson and Shelley (Randy) Penner. Son-in-law Bill (Linda) Morgans, Daughter-in-law Lorie (Carl) Halvorson, Grand children Tracey, Korey (Amanda) Morgans, Bartley (Julia), Jeffrey (Tania) Quibell, Craig (Karen), Chad (Tara), Michael Stevenson, Charmaine Linden (Mark), Ashlea (Verne) Tyacke, Cassie (Bryce) Penner and Ryan (Jackie) Penner. plus several Great Grandchildren. Sisters Eileen McDougall, Elsie (Walter) Meynberg, brother Lloyd (Vivian) Flodell. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Ernest was predeceased by wife Elsie, daughter Dian Morgans, son Ronald Flodell, son-in-law Bryon Quibell, all of his Larson brother and sisters-in-law. Sisters Edith (infant) Flodell, Elenore Holroyd, Brothers-in-law Wilfred Holroyd and Doug McDougall. Infant grandchildren, Cory Morgans and Chevaun Flodell.
Ernest will be missed by all who knew and loved him. We love you Dad you are the Best!

Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Parkland Place Auxiliary.
