Obituary for Donna Joanne Grant (Maxwell)

Donna Joanne Grant was born at Deloraine, MB, but grew up in Carnduff, SK. As a result of contacting meningitis when she was a little girl, Donna lost her hearing. She got her education at the School for the Deaf in Saskatoon. After completing high school, Donna took a hairdressing course where she met Blanche Mikulski (nee Preete) who introduced her to Lyle. The relationship blossomed into marriage on October 27, 1961 in Carnduff. This union was blessed with three children: Debra married Ernie Fidyk (their daughter Jennifer); Carol (passed away in 2019) married Tex Prete (their children: Brandon and Brittani); and John married Faye LeBlanc (and their three boys: Josh, Jacob and Jared).
Donna’s life was centered around family. She was dedicated to teaching the girls how to sew, cook and grow and process a big garden. Donna’s mother and sister lived with us for awhile and later Donna took care of Lyle’s mother until she need a higher level of care. Donna never let her handicap get in the way of anything she wanted to do.
Life was not all work. There were holidays and day trips to the lake to fish and waterski.
As the family grew and went their separate ways, Jennifer starting working with Lyle. Grampa and Jennifer worked together for eleven years. Jennifer coming for dinner everyday was the highlight of Donna’s day.
As Donna entered the hospital and became weaker, Lyle felt some things should be said: Donna, I thank you for: making my life complete for 58 years; all the happiness you shared with me; being a great mother to our three children; caring for your mother and mine; living such a pure life as quietly and thoughtfully as you did; your words of wisdom; being such a classy lady, making me a very proud husband; accepting your fate without a word of complaint; being an example to us all. Donna read this over and said “That’s nice Dad”.
A Private Family Service will be held for Donna at a later date with the interment to take place in the Columbarium at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to Palliative Care at the Melfort Hospital.
