Obituary for Derwood Curtis Dodds

Derwood Curtis Dodds
March 23, 1932 – February 24, 2023
Age 90 years

Derwood Curtis Dodds was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on March 23, 1932 to George and Frances Dodds. His parents and only sister Doretha Stevens predeceased him.

Derwood married the love of his life Shirley (Paulsen) on November 12, 1955 and they resided in Melfort.

To this union three children were born: Gordon (Susan), Robert (Caroline) and Elaine (Alex) Leslie.

His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He worked to turn his family into citizens he was proud of. During their growing years he spent many hours teaching them to fish and hunt wild birds. Many weekends were spent at the cabin at Emma Lake.

Derwood was employed with SaskTel for over thirty years. During this time he also became Captain of the Melfort Air Cadet Squadron #171. He volunteered his time mentoring and influencing young people and their lives for over 12 years. Upon retirement from SaskTel he took one year off where he busied himself with some home renovations and studied a Real Estate course. This was his chosen career for the next 25 years.

Derwood and his wife Shirley were also members of the Melfort Twirlers square dance club. They traveled many miles and enjoyed meeting wonderful people.

Derwood and Shirley also loved watching the Saskatchewan Roughrider games and cheered them on even if they didn’t win.

We the family would like to thank the staff at Parkland Place for the excellent care given to Derwood while living there.

Derwood is survived by his wife of 67 years, his three children and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Rest in Peace Derwood, you deserve it.
