Obituary for Austin Delbert Gunter

It is with great sadness that the family of Austin Gunter, my beloved husband and our beloved father, passed from this life on September 11, 2022.

He is predeceased by his parents Roy Victor and Cuba Gunter (nee Isaacs); his older brother: Merve; siblings in infancy: Wayne, Lois and Maude.

Austin is survived by his loving wife Marilou, his two children Miguel and Mariedelle; his brothers: Ellis, Vern, Elwood and sister Artis, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Austin was a lover of sports including tennis, football, baseball, boxing, pool, skating and curling. He curled during his younger years and his team went to Saskatoon to represent for the provincial playoffs. His love of sports was shared with his two kids, spending many days together curling or playing baseball on days off.

Not only did he try keeping his body active, but he kept his mind sharp with brain exercises. His favourite being Sudoku, where he completed book and weekly newspapers of the puzzles.

He spent 30 years overseas doing oil exploration in Asia, where he met his wife in the Philippines. They celebrated their 37th Wedding Anniversary on May 22, 2022. After getting married, they lived in the Philippines for 10 years before moving home to Canada in 1995. After the move, they owned a laundromat business and apartments for 10 years. Austin then ventured into the courier business until his passing.

Austin has touched the hearts of all those he has met throughout his 83 years. Sometimes there wouldn’t be many words said, but he knew exactly what to say and how to speak his mind.

No doubt he inherited the Gunter family’s stubbornness as well. Despite that, his words and smile were always kind to everyone. You would never hear him cuss or hear one bad word come out of his mouth about anyone, even in the worst situations. Family, friends, co-workers and clients know how caring and hardworking of a man he was. He was patient, forgiving and had a heart of gold.

Austin will forever be looking after us.
